Certainly this isn’t everything I’ve done during this era. I can’t fit all of it on one page. But here is a fun and eclectic selection of music videos, performance videos, commercials, promotional videos, as well as a short presentation speech. Artists range from classics like The Beach Boys, Ray Price, Lesley Gore and Jack Jones, to up-and-comers like Tony Jackson, Millie McGuire and Dulla. And that’s just the beginning of the list. I’ve had the great privilege of creating videos for an amazing roster of talent. There are 33 entries on this page. Have fun checking them out!
THE BEACH BOYS
"Sounds Of Summer" Promo VH1 (2003)
This was shot in Phoenix, Arizona during the 2003 4th of July weekend. VH1 sent me a script requesting the shoot include a few girls wearing bikinis while holding surf boards in the Arizona desert along with Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. I get the irony, but the 118˚F heatwave was too dangerous, so I called one of the local television stations and rented their news studio crew and green screen for a couple of hours. We shot the commercial quickly (and safely), I then had fun hanging around with Mike and Bruce for the weekend. I also had a blast making this spot quirky and fun rather than cliché. This promo was part of a series of promos VH1 was producing. Each with a different Classic Pop / Rock star. When the campaign was over, VH1 called me to say that my spot had the highest ratings of all the spots in the campaign! (And I no one died of heat stroke to get it done.)
FELIX CAVALIERE
Tour Teaser (2006)
One of my favorite things to do is to grab a camera and just run around a stage while great music is being performed. And in this case, I did just that with Rock ’n Roll Hall of Famer, Felix Cavaliere while he was play his biggest hits! Watch the video and you can tell I was having fun! This was shot on Production Stage 1 at SIR in Nashville.
THE LONG PLAYERS
2007-2014
Nashville is full of brilliant and in some cases, historic performance that happen for the moment and then evaporate into memories of those who witnessed the event. I thought that seemed wasteful, so I began to document the unique and historic Nashville musical moments created by The Long Players. The shows I shot from 2007 to 2014 were produced by me and one camera. I had six or seven locations stationed throughout the club that I would move to after every song. This way, when a composite of the performance was edited together, the video would offer the feel of a multi camera show. • Click the picture and it will take you to 30 performances by The Long Players and an amazing list of guest stars.
JOHN ANDERSON
"Swingin'" (2008)
I directed two hit John Anderson music videos in the early 90s. By 2008 I was back creating some performance videos. Things worked out so well at SIR in Nashville, shooting Felix Cavaliere’s video, that I went back again, but this time with John Anderson who was also playing some of his biggest hits. Here is John performing his all-time great Country classic, “Swingin’.” This is one of a series of songs shot that day. And once again, you can tell I was having a lot of fun running around shooting video of some great musicians.
CMHoF POETS & PROPHETS: BOB McDILL
Steve Boyle Presentation (2008)
I directed the Alabama music video “Song of the South” at the end of 1988 and Bob McDill wrote the song. I had always wanted to meet Bob and so when I heard that the Country Music Hall of Fame was honoring him, I asked if I could come by since I had been holding a souvenir for him from the Alabama music video for 20-years. I was told they would keep a seat for me. When I came by that day, I was told that I would be called up to the stage to make my presentation about an hour into the show. What?! I didn’t know I was going to make a formal speech! I wasn’t dressed for presenting on stage, I hadn’t prepared anything formal to say, and I was having a bad hair day. . . but what the heck. An hour is plenty of time to sit and figure something fun to say. The rule is, make it short, make it a story that has a beginning, middle and end, and try to end with a punchline. I also thought there were going to be others making presentations and speeches too. Nope. Just me. The theater was standing room only and full of Music Row movers and shakers. Thankfully, I know the theater well and knew about half the folks in the theater, so I felt relaxed making this off-the-cuff quick speech and presentation. And yes, I ended with a punchline. • To see the music video for "Song of the South" click here.
RAY PRICE
Live at the Ryman (2008)
When I got the call to produce this video, I thought I would bring in three cameras to shoot the show. But the Ryman demanded a hefty location fee if I were to do that, and I didn’t have that sort of budget. So, it was just me with one camera stationed by the soundboard. The good news here is that I was able to document this 82-year old Country Music Hall of Famer performing his hits with an orchestra and his band. An opportunity I was happy to have.
THOMPSON WARD
"Spiders & Snakes" (2008)
As much as I wasn’t interested in working on concept music videos at the time, I was a fan of the 1974 Jim Stafford song, “Spiders & Snakes” so, when I was asked to create a video for the song from Thomson Ward, I was happy to do it! Note that this was shot in wilds of Oxford, Mississippi and cast with the family and friends of the band. This wound up as a really sweet, fun and fast paced video. And I can truly and honestly say. . . no frogs, snakes or lizards were harmed while making this music video.
THOMPSON WARD
"Spiders & Snakes" Performance (2008)
Because I like to take advantage of opportunities, and because I just like running around with a camera while musicians are playing, I also created an alternate performance music video of “Spiders & Snakes.” I had the lights. I had the girls. I had the club. I had the smoke. Why not?! Any excuse to hear Thompson Ward play this song again!
NO VETERAN LEFT BEHIND /
WE ARE BUILDING LIVES
Homeless Vets Benefit Promotional Video (2009)
feat. Lane Brody, Bluesgrass, Gunnar Nelson, Myers Brothers, Seth Rooks, Eric Lee Beddingfield, Kenny Thomas, Salvador Gonzalez, Jared Weeks, Scott Bartlett, and Saving Abe
This is a promotional video to benefit homeless military veterans. This was shot by me with three cameras, capturing some wonderful performances at the Sound Kitchen Studios in Franklin, TN.
SESAC
Victoria Shaw Promo (2010)
This is just one of a campaign of short promotional videos I created for SESAC.
JEFF COOK
"Ashes Won't Burn" (2010)
I originally worked with Jeff Cook when I directed the Alabama music video “Song of the South” in 1988. Fast forward to 2010 and I’m running around with a camera at SIR to create a performance video for Jeff as a solo artist for his song, “Ashes Won’t Burn.”
FOSTER & LLOYD
2011-2021
By the end of the 90s I had decided I wasn’t interested in creating music videos - although I still enjoyed shooting performance videos, which to me, are more like a day at the gym. My last videos for both Foster and Lloyd were as solo artists in 1994. By 2011 they were back together for a reunion and I was invited to shoot the the session. From there, I was back making videos for F&L as a duo and as solo artists. And continue to get the call today. • Click the picture and you can see 17 videos from this era of 2011-2021, along with an additional 13 videos from 1987 to 1996.
REEL ANIMALS FISHING SHOW
2012-2014
While dealing with family issues in Sarasota, I wound up running Reel Animals Fishing Show, a weekly national sport fishing television series based in Tampa. I worked with Grand Funk Railroad on their last tour as the original trio in 1999. Knowing Mark Farner liked to fish, I invited him on the show where Mark officially caught the largest Redfish of the series! Mark not only knows how to wrangle a fish, but also knows how to tell some great Rock stories in this unique Reel Animals Fishing Show. • Click the photo to take you to the Mark Farner special as well as other RAF shows.
THE NATION'S FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG
ITV (2012)
“The Nation’s Favorite. . .” are a series of highly rated music countdown shows broadcast in Britain's ITV television network. Their Christmas special featured Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas” and so the call came to interview Millie Kirkham who sang back-up for Elvis on the road and on the record. Bill Lloyd received the request from ITV and called me to produce the shoot. Sadly, there is no available footage to show you of Millie’s segment of the show. But the series is an institution in the UK and so, I just wanted to say I had my little part in it. (Thanks Bill!)
LESLEY GORE
"Judy’s Turn To Cry" Story & Song LIVE (2013)
This is a glorified fan video on my part, although it was at Lesley Gore's request. I was in the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida shooting video for Henry Gross. Lesley Gore was also performing that night. She saw me and my gear and asked if I could shoot her performance too. When it was done, she asked if there was anything I liked and I said yes and talked about her “Judy’s Turn To Cry” story. She then said, well, you should post it on YouTube. So, I did! She also asked me to give her a ride to her hotel after the show because the shuttle bus was delayed. But by the time I was ready to go, the bus showed up. So, I missed an opportunity to do some casual chat time with Lesley. Sadly, she died barely a year after this video was shot. I’m glad and honored she asked me to shoot and post this wonderful bit of her performance.
MANDY BARNETT
"Blue, Blue Day" (2014)
While I was in Florida, I was commissioned to create this lyric music video for Mandy Barnett. The song is a romantic remake of a hit by her friend Don Gibson. Since they were old friends, I thought the images for the video would represent fond memories along with animating a handwriting font as if notes in a diary. Look for rare photos supplied by the Gibson family, a photo of Mandy and Don together, and some vintage post cards from Don’s hometown Shelby, NC. I had the photos, string, tripods and camera in the back of my car for a couple of weeks, waiting for bad weather to blow through, knowing that storms for Sarasota area come out of the west and blow east. When that happens at the end of the day and the storm breaks, I get my props lit by the setting sun, while I get storm clouds in the background. The storm also seems to have lowered an already low tide, so look for a semi capsized boat stuck on a sandbar in the water of the last shot. A subtle and fit ending for a song of lost love. • This video won a 2014 Telly Award.
GARTH BROOKS
2014-2018
I worked with Garth from near the end of his retirement through to the end of the first leg of his world tour. In those four years I had the honor of creating terabytes and terabytes of videos for him - from national commercials, promotional videos, and social media videos, to videos that played on the world’s largest video screen, which traveled on tour and on stage behind him as he performed. And I got to hang with Garth a bunch too. It was a lot of fun. He and Trisha are really great folks. • Click the picture to see selection of my Garth videos from the 2014-2018 era.
70s TIME MACHINE
Tour Teaser (2015)
feat. Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), Edgar Winter,
Denny Laine (Moody Blues) and Henry Gross
This was just a quick edit job to promote the 2015 tour. The Henry Gross performance was shot by me at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, Florida. Otherwise, this is just a mix of archives and that bit of video I shot. I’ve included it here because it’s quick, the archives are fun to watch, and I’m a big fan of all four artist.
THE JIMMY DEAN SHOW
2015-2017
I had the absolute pleasure of spending two years restoring 81 hours of the ABC television series, The Jimmy Dean Show (1963-1966) for the Jimmy Dean Estate. • Sadly, I can’t post the entire series but I do have a mini documentary and an Information I created available for you to watch. Both offer a great overview of the series. And I won a bunch of awards with this series too! Click the photo and check out two great overview videos of The Jimmy Dean Show.
HUMAN RADIO
Indigogo Pledge Video
feat. Billy Bob Thornton (2015)
I always liked Human Radio. They had a big Pop hit in the late 80s. By 2015 they were back with a successful Indigogo Pledge campaign. Their pal Billy Bob Thornton dropped in narration for this video. And the second half of the video offers a quick behind-the-scenes look during their recording session. And me, I get to share a title page with an Oscar winner.  Nice all around!
TOONTRACK
Songwriting with EZDrummer 2
& Superior Drummer 2 (2016)
feat. Blake Bollinger & Mike Gossin (Gloriana)
Swedish company Toontrack commissioned me to create a number of short videos for them. This is just one of a series showcasing their phenomenal music software.
JOHN BOYLE
"Thumbs Up (Emoji Song)" (2016)
My 15-year old son, John was playing with my phone while I was driving. He had the text to voice App going and then started launching Emojis. When he did that, there was a voice announcing each Emojis and he was doing it with rhythm. I offer a little bit of guidance so that there was one musical measure. I had him record the audio and then I put some visuals to recording. It’s cute! It’s fun! It’s short (16-seconds). It’s amazing he was able to create something “musical” out of Emojis!
JODY GRIND
Pledge Drive Video (2016)
feat. Tim Hinkley (The Rolling Stones), Charlie Morgan (Elton John), Larry Knight (Linda Ronstadt), David Santos (Billy Joel).
Jody Grind was a UK Hammond Organ trio that released two albums (1969 and 1970). Founding member, Tim Hinkley reformed the band with the help of this 2016 pledge drive video.
JACK JONES
"80th Birthday Tour" Live Teaser (2017)
I remember Jack Jones from when I was a kid. And my dad, who was a singer, just loved Jack’s voice! So, when I was asked to put something together from archives to promote Jack’s 80th Birthday Tour of North and South Asia, I just had to do it!
NILE ROGERS:
HOW TO MAKE IT IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS
BBC (2017)
feat. Keith Urban and Avicii
2015 I spent two weeks running a video crew and doing interviews for in Dublin, Ireland. And yet, I was in Nashville the entire time. My schedule was too crazy for me to travel, so I ran the crew by “remote control” and figured a way to do my interviews via Skype and a local three-camera crew. My UK contacts helped put the crew together and then called in 2017 to return the favor. I put a three camera crew together for interviews for this Nile Rogers BBC 4 special. Keith Urban was the first interview and Avicii was the second. Because Avicii was the end of the day, I wound up hanging with him for quite a while, chatting about being on the road and other odds and ends. I was shocked to read in the News that he committed suicide just a few months latter. I would never, ever had predicted that sad ending. • Unfortunately there is no available footage to show you of Avicii and Keith’s contribution to this BBC 4 documentary.
THE LONG PLAYERS
2017-2020
The Long Players videos are in two phases. Phase One runs from 2007 to 2014. All performances are shot with one camera and so, a composite of each evenings performance was produced. [Please see 2007-2014 The Long Players for those videos.] Phase Two began in 2017 when I figured a way to shoot a multi-camera production all by myself (up to 15 cameras at one time). From those shows, the best performances were edited together in a theme of musical eras. As opposed to Phase One, this phase offers artists giving full performances. Also look for some fun and at times strange, bits and pieces of vintage television from each music era, intercut between songs. • Click the photo to check out 11 shows from the 2017-2020 era with videos averaging 45-minutes per show.
TONY JACKSON
Commercial (2018)
Tony Jackson is an amazing traditional Country music artist who has received millions of views for his music videos and an extremely rare standing ovation for his premiere performance on the Grand Ole Opry. I have created a good number of promotional videos for Tony (no music videos) and of those I thought I would feature this commercial. It offers a nice overview of Tony and I not only created the spot, but I’m the Narrator too!
JONELL MOSSER
“King Bee” Live (2018 / 2021)
I first worked with Jonell Mosser in 1991 when she was the co-singer in the B.B. Watson “Lover Not A Fighter” music video. Here she is, shining on her own, performing a sultry gender rework of a Taj Mahal classic. Production is me running 9 cameras for this live performance at 3rd & Lindsley.
HUMBLE PIE Legacy
Live Teaser (2019)
Founding member of Humble Pie, Jerry Shirley reformed his old band with Dave “Bucket” Colwell (who played with HP in 2002 and on their album “Back On Track”) but as the tour geared up, Jerry wound up in surgery. And so Jerry (who owns the band’s name) ran the tour from home with Bucket leading the band. I was commissioned to catch up with the tour for a live show at Nashville’s City Winery. So, with me running a dozen cameras, I shot and edited this composite promotional tour video. Check it out! These guys Rock!
DULAA
"Echoes  #HowCanWeChange" (2019)
This was fun! I don’t often get a chance to work Rap / Urban music. I created this music video totally in post production. Scenes from the documentary “Shannon Street: Echoes Under A Blood Red Moon” were incorporated to promote the film, along with footage shot by noted Memphis videographer, LaMar Davis III. I tossed a lot of Grunge visuals in this Rap / Urban video. It fit the attitude of the track and documentary well. Note professional wrestler Jerry Lawler drops in for a cameo. • Click the photo and it will take you to the video.
MILLIE McGUIRE
"Two" (2019)
I received a call from old friend Chris Stamey (the dB’s / Alex Chilton) asking for help with this video. Mille is a great young singer from Chapel Hill, NC who Chris is producing. Millie and her friend Addison Lentz produced and directed her video but were kind of lost when they got to editing and so Chris sent the footage over to me to rebuild this sweet and engaging music video in post production. Millie has performed with an amazing list of stars across the US. She is an up-and-commer to keep an eye on.
LET EM IN
TRIBUTE TO PAUL McCARTNEY
Concert Sampler (2019)
I’m a big fan of Mike Vargo and an even bigger fan of Paul McCartney. Mike’s tribute to McCartney is a show worth watching! Here is a concert sampler I put together from his performance at 3rd & Lindsley. It’s just me running 15 cameras and a whole lot of editing.
JOE BLANTON with HOMEMADE SIN
"Under High Cotton" Live (2019)
This is a stark-raving-rockin' performance from Joe Blanton, Warner Hodges, Sean Savacool, and Mauro Magellan, performed Live at Nashville’s True Music Room. “Under High Cotton” was originally from The Bluefields classic 2014 album. This performance was shot by me running a dozen cameras along with having way too much fun editing.
