Bill Lloyd is an old pal and so I’ve kept up with whatever music adventures he’s been up to. Back in 2004 he and other notable music friends began The Long Players, originally as a one-off charity event that was too good to stop. As the concept grew from one special to many shows, I can’t remember if Bill asked me to shoot a performance or if I asked him, but by May 4, 2007 I finally showed up with a camera, and I’ve been shooting The Long Players performances ever since.
Nashville is full of brilliant and in some cases, historic performance that happen for the moment and then evaporate into memories of those who witnessed the event. I thought that seemed wasteful, so I began to document the unique and historic Nashville musical moments created by The Long Players.
The shows I shot from 2007 to 2014 were produced by me and one camera. I had six or seven locations stationed throughout the club that I would move to after every song. This way, when a composite of the performance was edited together, the video would offer the feel of a multi camera show. By the end of 2011, I moved to Florida to run Reel Animals Fishing Show out of Tampa, but I would still come up to Nashville on as regular a basis as I could to continue to document these special events.
I finally moved back to Nashville in 2015 and then thought of a way to shoot a multi camera concert by myself. So, look for phase two of The Long Players in the 2017-2020 page where performances are experienced in their entirety.
I hope you receive as much enjoyment watching each of these videos as I had making them! There are some magical moments in these videos, especially from some artists who are now long gone. Each one of these videos are truly historic pages in the Nashville music scene, locked in time and videotape.
